Roof Restoration
Washington, DC

Built in 1867, this National Historic Landmark has undergone a $5 million rehabilitation to restore its distinctive 75,000-square-foot copper roof and reconstruct three porticos. The copper roof had deteriorated over time, and Hoffmann Architects was asked to investigate the issues and design remedial solutions to meet stringent historic preservation requirements. The Greek Revival building was formerly home to the U.S. Patent Office and now houses the National Portrait Gallery, Archives of American Art and National Museum of American Art
